Gili Sports 10' Mako iSUP
Pros
- Lightweight well constructed iSUP for lighter riders
- Feature packed despite the low cost - quality backpack, lots of d-rings, action mounts, etc.
- It should be fairly stable for smaller riders of all ability levels due to tri fin set up and 32” width.
Cons
- Single chamber dual stage pump might be hard for pre-teen paddlers to pump up the SUP by themselves.
As Summer loomed to a close, we found ourselves thinking about the next big season, the holidays. What we learned from this year, and we imagine you did too, is that there is no shortage of friends who would love to join you on your paddling adventures. So with that in mind we introduce the Gili Sports 10’ Mako Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard review. As most of you with kids know, holiday presents can be tough, hopefully Gili Sports just made it a bit easier.
Gili Sports just released the 10’ Mako iSUP and we are going to do a spec review as we wait for the models to reach our offices. Based on Gili’s current lineup, construction quality, and customer service we can handily recommend this new entry.
At 10 feet long and 32 inches wide this should make a very stable platform for smaller riders. Specifically we think this would be a great board for preteens, teenagers, and really anyone under 5’8” and 150 lbs. Gili is already known for making some incredibly lightweight boards and that is a key point for youngsters, whether they carry it or you end up lugging it around.
We think the Gili Sports 10’ Mako inflatable stand up paddle would be great for paddlers who:
- Want a well-built iSUP that’s great for smaller paddlers
- Want a lightweight iSUP for the same reason or travel purposes
- Wants a very well optioned iSUP with all kind of accessory options
We think the Gili Sports 10’ Mako inflatable stand up paddleboard is great for the following water conditions/situations:
- Flat water paddling (lakes, bays, marinas, etc.)
- Recreational paddling (beginners, just paddling around flat water w/ friends and kids)
- Ocean paddling
- Surfing in small surf (1-3 ft)

Official SupBoardGuide.com Test Results: Gili Sports 10’ Mako iSUP (2021 model)
Overall Score: 9.2/10
Based solely on our experience with Gili Sports current lineup this board looks to be quite competitive in the small paddler segment. Specifically small paddlers will need lighter equipment to be able to successfully carry it around. This board is not only lightweight but it’s dimensions should prove to be more than stable enough for smaller paddlers. Even newer paddlers should feel right at home with such a wide stance, provided they are the lightweight this board was designed for.
This board is also packed with features from the 5 action mounts located for and aft, to the 18 D-rings, this board is ready to take on just about any plans you may have for your paddling adventure. We are especially fond of the paddle holder and the front and rear removable bungee setups.
The kit comes fairly complete with a bag / backpack, 3 piece travel paddle, leash, and single chamber dual stage pump. We are fans of the Gili Sports “fin pocket” on the bags meaning your fins should never get lost. We wish the pump was a three stage dual chamber unit, but for the time being they are offering a free electric pump with the purchase of this new iSUP, so why not?
Features/Accessory Review:
Given how well we know the Gili brand and their accessories, and the fact that what comes with the Mako is pretty much the same as what you get with their Adventure series, we feel confident enough to give our first take review on what comes with the Mako kit.
Features:
We like that the Mako comes with most of Gili’s accessory catalog. 5 action mounts and 18 D-rings are a great start for just about any adventure we can think of involving an iSUP. Additionally it has 7 handles and an integrated paddle holder.
Included Accessories:
The Gili Sports 10’ Mako is a nearly complete kit including:
- iSUP Backpack
- 3 Piece Travel Paddle
- 8’ Coiled Leash
- Single Chamber Dual Stage Manual Pump
Pump:
Gili included their single chamber pump in the Mako series. This is a nice single chamber pump, but we would like to add one caveat: typically those types of pumps make it difficult for smaller paddlers to finish fully inflating their iSUPs to the recommended PSI. Considering that the Gili Sports 10’ Mako is aimed at smaller paddlers, if you are buying this for a smaller teen then we’d recommend adding their electric pump.
Another trick smaller paddlers can use is to have two people pump up the board. Have each person grab one side of the handle and stand shoulder to shoulder and together they will have a much easier time pumping up the board.
Bag:
The Gili Sports Mako 10’ iSUP comes with their standard backpack / bag. While it lacks wheels it’s overall lightness makes it a fairly easy pack to carry on your shoulders or in your hands.
Optional Accessories
Gili Sports has no shortage of optional accessories. Just a quick look at their website reveals some fairly tempting items to throw in the cart alongside your new iSUP. Some of our favorites are:
- 12V Electric iSUP Paddle Board Pump
- SUP to Kayak Conversion Kit
- 5” Speed Fin and 3” River Fin
- Kayak and Paddleboard Anchor Kit
- Paddleboard Deck Cooler Bag
Summary Review of the Gili Sports 10’ Mako iSUP (2021 model)
Gili Sports New 10’ Mako inflatable stand up paddleboard is a great choice for smaller paddlers including teens and preteens. Based on the previous Gili Sports models and it’s size this should be plenty stable for new paddlers just getting their feet wet. It also comes with many features typically reserved for the larger more expensive iSUPs. At its current price with the included electric pump it’s a great choice for the holidays.
Happy paddling! We hope you enjoyed this spec review of the Gili Sports 10’ Mako iSUP. If you have any questions or comments please leave us a comment below!
