Atoll’s 12’ x 34” Outrider inflatable SUP feels like a larger all-around paddle board but with a sportier twist. It’s clearly designed for larger paddlers or paddlers carrying lots of equipment who want high weight capacity and rock-solid stability without the extra drag that comes with an overly wide board. The new Atoll construction is relatively light for a board this size making it easy to manage on and off the water, and Atoll did a great job with feature placement and layout.

We think the Atoll Outrider would be great for paddlers who

  • Want a larger paddleboard for better stability and capacity but without the feel of an extra large board
  • Need to carry lots of equipment or regularly paddle with a passenger, but still want good paddling performance
  • Want versatility with their setup for everything from a casual day at the beach to a mult-day fishing expedition

Stability Rating: 9.6/10

Atoll Ourider 12' - action stability
The 33” wide Pro 11’6 has a comfortable amount of stability thanks to its generous shape.

The Outrider features a longer and wider shape than most all-around boards, which generally means a much more stable feel on the water. But with a noticeably tapered tail, that shape can sometimes lead to less stability than you’d expect.

However, the Outrider’s stability is fantastic, especially considering the tail shape. The board retains good width throughout most of its length, which contributes to a steady, confidence-inspiring platform. Heavier beginners over 250 pounds with limited athletic experience might prefer a board with a wider tail, but for most larger paddlers, this strikes the right balance between stability and playfulness.

Speed: 8.7/10

Atoll Ourider 12' - action paddling in

Performance-wise, this board paddles exactly how you’d expect a well-built 12’ x 34” iSUP to behave. It feels stiff and solid underfoot, even when paddling hard, and there’s no noticeable flex. The nose cuts through small chop and boat wakes without issue, and although it’s not quite as quick as the Atoll Archipelago, it holds its own against other large size all-around boards. The narrower tail shape helps water release from the rear of the board, which reduces drag and gives the Outrider a nice gliding feel.

If outright speed is your top priority, you’ll want something narrower and more touring-oriented, but for most paddlers, especially heavier riders, this strikes a great balance of speed and glide compared to its high stability.

SUP Board Guide’s Speed Testing:
The speed score given above is a comparative rating to other sizes and styles of paddleboards, whereby 14’ raceboards would be scoring in the high 9s, and the widest all-round boards or surf-orientated shorter boards would be in the 5s or below.

Over the many years that we have been reviewing paddleboards at supboardguide.com, we have experimented with numerous different methodologies for speed testing, involving various hardware and software solutions. However, none have proved replicable; even using the same rider in the same conditions the numbers would vary from day to day, and of course when using different riders, or even just a different paddle, the results would change significantly. For this reason, while we still test all boards in cruise mode, fast cruise mode and then push them as hard as we can, we no longer give ‘absolute’ speed data (ie 5.5mph etc) – which ultimately doesn’t really matter unless you’re specifically looking to compete – and now report more on the general feel of the board when asked to perform.

Tracking: 8.8/10

The fiberglass all around-style fin is placed farther back on the tail to improve tracking.

The extra board length and lightly tapered shape help improve tracking as well.

Out testers found it easy to paddle the Outrider straight thanks to its fin, fin position, and overall board shape.

Atoll has created a new fiberglass all-around style 8” fin to pair with the Outrider SUP. This new fin is more rigid than a standard plastic fin and is placed quite far back on the tail to help improve the tracking performance of the board.

The Outrider is a wider board, but has a relatively parallel shape through most of the board’s length. This helps keep your paddle aligned with the direction of movement and helps prevent the board from “wagging” which can sometimes happen with more tapered tail shapes.

The result is effortless tracking for all-around use. We were comfortable paddling 8-10 times before changing sides and didn’t feel the board wandering around as we casually cruised across the water. But for those paddlers taking on longer-distances and multi-day trips, you may want to take advantage of the US fin box and swap out for a larger touring-style fin to help improve that tracking even more.

Maneuverability: 8.8/10

Atoll Ourider 12' - action step back turn
The narrower tail shape gives the Outrider a playful feel when stepping back for a pivot turn.
Atoll Ourider 12' - action turning
The Outrider’s narrower tail and slightly smaller fin keep it easy to maneuver with basic strokes as well

For a big board, the Outrider’s maneuverability is surprisingly good. The tapered tail helps the board feel a bit more responsive than many of its competitors, though it does make pivot turns slightly more challenging. Still, pivot turns are totally manageable, and the 8” fin doesn’t feel like it’s grabbing or resisting steering when changing direction.

Construction Quality: 9.6/10

Atoll Ourider 12' - valve
The Atoll Outrider uses a new welded seam construction, though it still has a maximum pressure rating of just 15 PSI.

The Outrider feels tough, durable, and premium throughout. Atoll has clearly focused on refining their manufacturing process, and it shows in the stiffness and finish of the board.

Inside, Atoll uses a new woven drop stitch core to help improve board rigidity. The outer PVC material is a new dual-layer fusion PVC construction with the two layers of PVC machine-bonded to the inner core. The seams are now heat welded, reinforced with another layer of PVC material, and there are additional PVC stringers along the top and bottom of the midsection rails.

The result of this new construction is a little heavy on the scale, but in relation to other boards this size – and with so many built-in features – is actually on the lighter side.

Board Stiffness:

Atoll Outrider iSUP - bend test
Board flex after placing 150 pounds on the board.

Stiffness Test: 0.94” Bend

Our stiffness test is performed by placing the SUP on top of two sawhorses that are set 7’ apart. We then measure the board before and after loading 150 lbs onto the board’s midpoint (usually across the center handle). Of course, this test does not mimic the SUP’s behavior on the water, but it’s an unbiased way for us to understand how certain construction methods affect stiffness and overall performance of each paddleboard.

In our bend test, the Atoll Outrider flexed just under 1” with 150 pounds of weight. That is quite impressive and shows a significant improvement over their previous construction. On the water we did not notice any flex or bend in the board while paddling or moving around, and only a slight flex when bouncing on it.

SUP Board Guide’s Bend Testing:
To ascertain the rigidity of each board we review, we have been using our own specific laboratory bend test process since 2021. The board is inflated to its maximum recommended PSI and positioned exactly on our measuring jig. 150lb weight is then applied to the standing area to see how much bend it causes. While this isn’t an exact replication of the weight distortion that occurs when a rider stands on a SUP board in the water, it still gives a very useful comparative tool in determining the relative stiffness of the various board construction processes.

Features/Accessory Review: [9.2/10]

Niphean has built out the Pro 11’6 board and kit to be highly versatile with a great set of on-board features and fittings.

The Atoll Outrider is outfitted to do just about anything you can think of. The board features two built-in (but removable) cargo areas, 13 D-rings, 3 threaded accessory mounts, 2 pairs of removable passenger handles, 2 Scotty mounts, and 12 nylon loop tie down points through the middle of the board. These loop tabs can be used with kayak seats, carabiners, and even the removable cargo bungee cords to setup the Outrider however you need it.

Atoll Ourider 12' - handle
The Deck pad has a diamond groove pattern for excellent traction, and it covers the entire standable portion of the board.
Atoll Ourider 12' - strap
There are 6 pairs of loop tiedowns on the side of the board and two velcro tabs on the right side to hold a spare paddle.

Included Accessories:

The Atoll Outrider comes with a complete set of accessories:

  • 3-piece carbon shaft paddle w/ a nylon blade
  • 8” fiberglass all around-style fin
  • 3” shallow water fin
  • Coiled leash
  • Repair kit
  • Double-action pump
  • Padded backpack

Atoll’s accessory kit has everything you need to get paddling except for a life jacket. The three piece paddle is lightweight and easy to use with length markings on the handle, and it provides just the right amount of power and flex for efficient all day paddling. We would like to see an upgrade to the pump (either a dual chamber or electric pump) and it would be nice to see a few more color options for the board/kit.

Summary Review of the Atoll Outrider iSUP

Atoll Ourider 12' - action paddling

Atoll’s 12’ x 34” Outrider SUP hits a sweet spot that many larger paddlers will appreciate. It’s stable, strong, and capable of hauling plenty of gear without feeling slow or cumbersome. It’s a true “all-around adventure” board rather than a pure touring shape, which means you can fish, cruise, paddle long distances, or load it up for a weekend trip with confidence.

We’d love to see a few more color options and maybe a slightly upgraded accessory package, but overall, Atoll nailed it with this board. If you’re a bigger paddler or simply want more stability and gear capacity without sacrificing performance, this is an excellent choice.

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading through our review of the Atoll Outrider, and encourage you to hit us with any questions or suggestions in the comments below.
